5 Inches of Rain Dampens Maintenance at Lake Tansi Golf Course
By Todd Mathews
Golf course superintendent

Lake Tansi golf course received over 5 inches of rain during a 3 day stretch beginning on May 1st. The course is completely saturated and more rain is expected. Mowing and maintenance has come to halt due to the wet conditions. The course needs some dry weather and lots of sunshine ASAP.

The maintenance staff had just started to catch up on mowing after a very wet April. The course was beginning to dry out and was very close to being in top condition. Then along comes 5 inches of rain. Back to square one.

Lack of sunshine has been the biggest problem for the golf maintenance department so far this spring. Cloudy and overcast afternoons have drastically delayed the drying process this year. Hopefully, dry weather will prevail and the maintenance staff can begin to work at getting the course into top notch condition again.

There are nearly 100 acres of turf to mow at Lake Tansi golf course. It takes several days to get it all cut during dry conditions. When the maintenance staff gets rained out 1 day it is difficult to get caught up. When the maintenance staff gets rained for 5 consecutive days (such as now), the task of catching up on mowing becomes a nightmare.
