Dry
weather allows golf maintenance to complete several projects
By Todd Mathews

Recent dry weather
has been a blessing not only for golfers but for the golf course
maintenance staff as well, allowing them to complete several improvement
projects. Projects go much more smoothly when the weather cooperates.
Listed below are some of the projects the golf maintenance staff
has completed thus far:
• Drainage on
number 7 in front of the yellow tee. The perpetual wet area is
now dry. They can now mow the area instead of having to weed eat
it.
• Drainage on
the driving range just in front of the range tee.
• Drainage to
the left of number 14 red tee. There is a natural spring in this
area which pumps out an extreme amount of water. The new french
drain should eliminate the problem.
• An addition
of 5 irrigation heads to the area of rough between holes 2 and
4. The drought wiped out this area last year and we had to re-seed.
The addition of irrigation will ensure that the area will not
have to be seeded again.
• Removal of
5 dead trees and their stumps.
• Drainage on
the front left of number 4 green. The new drainage will all but
eliminate any squeegee work needed after heavy rains.
• Tee bed remodeling
on number 4 and 12.
• Installation
of 12 tons of new silica (high quality sand) to the fairway bunkers.
Some projects yet to
be completed include septic repair at the restroom on number 14
and the connection of the front and back nine irrigation systems
under Dunbar road.
